Today, let’s meet Felicia from Canada.
Please tell us about you!
My name is Felicia – pronounced Fel-ee-see-ah. My friends call me Fe. I’m 23 years old and a newlywed of 7 months, married to my best friend in the world. We live in a small house with our 2 kitties, Storm and Rogue, in southern Manitoba (a 45 minute drive away from the States!)
One of my favorite photos of our wedding day!
I’m a Christian and my husband and I attend the best church ever! I sing in the choir and on a worship team, which is super fun!
I have a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (English Literature and Sociology) but the job market in my town sucks so I work at Staples part-time (an office supply store). My wish is to become a book editor someday because I love reading so much, and that would be the perfect job.

Other than books, some of my favorite things are the tv show Chuck, nail polish, photography (specifically Instagram – username is feedotbee), the color purple, chai lattes, Coldplay, and blogging – Open Up The Sky is where you can find me.
Describe your personality in 10 words!
Friendly, sensitive, joker, fun-loving, colorful, artsy, indie, lover, sparkly, bubbly.
Me and Chris this Christmas.
How long have you been penpalling? How did you first start? Tell us about your first penpal!
I got my first 2 pen pals around the same time when I was 12 years old. I sent my name in to a magazine I subscribed to at the time, and they basically matched you up with girls the same age as you. I lost contact with one of them after 4 years or so, but I still write to the other one! An 11 year friendship is nothing to be scoffed at!
How many penpals do you have now and where are they from?
I have somewhere between 20 – 25 pen pals, but I would say about 10 of them are more constant. I only write to girls at this point. I’ve tried writing to guys in the past but it never lasts beyond one letter. Some places they’re from – USA, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Germany, Finland, Russia, and Canada.
An example of some outgoing mail.
What are your favorite topics to discuss in letters?
I like to just talk about life in my letters – what I’ve been up to, how my job is going, that crazy thing my cats did earlier, my dreams and goals for the next little while. And I love to hear the same from my pen pals. I just love stories! I also like to ask questions at the end of my letters to get to know things about them that might never come up.
What are you looking for in a penpal?
I really appreciate honesty and openness in a pen pal. I like feeling comfortable enough to share just about anything with them. I also like a good sense of humor!
This is where I write my letters.
What do you like the most about penpalling?
I like reading stories about life. I like getting to know people from other countries. I like art of writing and I like having something tangible in my hand that I can go back and read 4 years down the road.
In what language(s) do you correspond?
English. That’s it.
What are some of your habits in regards to letter writing?
I like to sit down at my desk with a beverage (favorites include hot chocolate or Pepsi) and choose my paper and pen: very serious matters! I tend to write rambling, stream-of-consciousness letters, and the shortest I can bring myself to do is 3 full-size pages. Sometimes I write back quickly, but sometimes it takes me up to a month to write back. But I always write back!
Rogue always sleeps on my letters!
Has anything strange/funny ever happened to you since you’ve been penpalling?
I used to have an Interpals profile, and for a while I emailed with a guy from Iraq. One day he asked for my address, and he had seemed normal up until then so I gave it to him. When I got a package from him, it included a huge card that said “I love you” surrounded by hearts and flowers around it, as well as a mix cd with weird Middle Eastern music and a random angry rap song. Needless to say, I got really creeped out and didn’t talk to him ever again.
Have you met any of your penpals?
I have met one of my pen pals! In 2007 my mom and I went on a road trip to meet my pen pal Suzanne from New York. We had a great time together – sightseeing, shopping, and we went to a Josh Groban concert together.
Storm always sleeps on my letters too!
Are you currently looking for more penpals?
Sure, I always like to make more friends!
Thank you Felicia! Your cats are adorable, by the way…
