  1. For any English readers currently experiencing a major “WTF” moment, a fanny pack is a bum bag.

I can remember being astonished the first time I heard the term “fanny pack” until it was explained to me!

  2. Oh really?! Haha! Well thanks for the “translation”, Lisa!

I received your lovely letter last week, by the way! It was great hearing from you… I’ll try to reply soon! xox

  3. A bum bag?! A bum bag! Thanks for teaching me something new Lisa!

Julie, let’s start a fanny pack/bum bag resurgence. You start on one end of the country, I’ll start on the other, and we’ll meet somewhere in, say, Manitoba? Let’s GO!! :)

I’m so glad to see my pacman envelope on your blog! I only made two–one I sent to a special person [that's you!] and the other I couldn’t bear to part with. I’m calling him Joe.

Laura, you are an absolute RIOT!!! Your quirks have made my day.

  5. Oh my, this is just hilarious especially #6 and 7! And I kept scrolling up to see the Pacman envelope again and again. It reminds me of my childhood! :D To be honest, I didn’t know that it’s called a fanny pack or a bum bag. I called it the waist bag because we wear it around our waist. :) But the term ‘bum bag’ made me chuckled. How interesting!

  6. Ah, well, you see, you can’t call a thing a “fanny pack” in England, because in England the word “fanny” denotes “lady parts”. Your bum is the thing you sit on.

Having said that, I’ve never understood why they were called bum bags when, as Bree says, they’re worn around the waist.

  7. Chantal and Bree–thanks for the kind words. I’m very glad that I was able to give you something to laugh over (even if that something was me and my *perfectly* normal ways). :)

Fanny/bum/waist packs. I had no idea that there were so many different names for the same item!

  8. Fanny can also be a girl’s name, though rather antiquated!

  9. LOL! yeah, i do the dishwasher thing too. and wow, you were in the elevator w/ ryan reynolds and blake lively!? did you say anything or was it the awkward elevator silence?

  10. OH YAY! I’m so glad to meet another person who doesn’t use their dishwasher to clean dishes. Everyone else doesn’t know it, but we use the dishwasher in the correct way. :)

It was more a matter of trying not to be trampled by their huge entourage. I was a total cool cat about it all, but my husband practically broke his neck trying to gawk at them. He’d deny it, but he’d be lying.

Hello!

My name is Julie and I'm 33.
I live in Québec (close to Montréal) and I speak French.

I write letters, I love stationery and I have a handwriting fetish. I often eat sushi, still feel like I'm 16 and only wear skirts & dresses (with colorful tights when it's cold).

I'm happier with a mind full of ideas, a mailbox full of letters from my penpals, a shop full of stationery, a house full of cats and a day full of hugs.
