Penpal of the Week #93

Hello! Chelsea in the USA sent me a penpal ad a couple of months ago and now she’s Penpal of the Week!

Please tell us about you!

My name is Chelsea, I’m 20 years old and I live in Oregon. I live with my parents, two younger sisters, five cats and one dog. I am definitely a dog person, and the rest of my family is not.

Chelsea 1

My best friend and I (I’m on the right).

I love Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, anything Disney (I’ve been to Disneyland a few too many times) and Doctor Who! I love going on adventures and trying new things. I have an ugly sweater collection, and the amount of Perry the Platypus merchandise I own is probably a little much for a 20 year old woman, but hey, he’s a secret agent platypus. What’s not to love?

I adore music of all kinds, I spent most of my life in some sort of choir, which grew to a love for musical theatre, so I love acting and dancing as well.

Describe your personality in 10 words!

Happy, crazy, loud, energetic, ridiculous, fun, adventurous, loving, colorful, and bookish.

Chelsea 2

Meeting Mr. Incredible in Disneyland!

How long have you been penpalling? How did you first start? Tell us about your first penpal!

I first started pen palling at age 8. My mother was still in contact with a foreign exchange student friend from when she was in high school, and he happened to have a daughter my age, so I started writing to her. She lived in Japan. We lost contact around age 12 or 13, but since then, I’ve had a love for pen palling.

How many penpals do you have now and where are they from?

I have too many pen pals to count from all over the world! I love having pen pals from other countries, but I have several from the USA too.

Chelsea 3

My mail board, where I put a pin in every place I’ve ever gotten mail from

(and also every place I’ve ever been!)

What are your favorite topics to discuss in letters?

Anything and everything! It depends on who I’m writing to.

What are you looking for in a penpal?

Someone open minded who wants to learn about other cultures and doesn’t mind telling me about theirs.

What do you like the most about penpalling?

The feeling of excitement when you open your mail box and find something for you that’s not a bill!

Chelsea 4

Ugly sweater shopping with friends!

In what language(s) do you correspond?

Currently, only English, but I’m working on improving my Spanish!

What are some of your habits in regards to letter writing?

I usually write my letters at my dining room table, with my kitten sprawled out across them. I almost always write a response to letters within a week of receiving them, but I live and work in a small rural town, and getting to the post office can be somewhat of an ordeal, so it sometimes will take me a little longer to actually send the letters out. I like to think it’s worth the wait, though, because I don’t believe in letters shorter than 2.5 pages, especially if they’re travelling internationally.

Has anything strange/funny ever happened to you since you’ve been penpalling?

Sadly, nothing strange has ever happened to me while pen palling :(

Have you met any of your penpals?

I have! I met my pen pal Marjorie at Vidcon this year. We spent a good 20 minutes texting and calling each other trying to figure out where we were and where we could meet up, but eventually we did find each other!

(I’m in the flowered shirt and she’s just to the left of me.)

Are you currently looking for more penpals?

I am always looking for new pen pals! You can contact me at choirgeek12@hotmail.com if you’d like to be my pen pal!

Thank you Chelsea! (Nice sweaters…)

  1. Mail board, what a lovely idea!

Hello!

My name is Julie and I'm 37.
I'm French Canadian and fell
in love with an American,
so I'm now living in Vermont
with my wife.

I write letters, I love stationery and I have a handwriting fetish. I often eat sushi, still feel like I'm 16 and only wear skirts & dresses (with colorful tights when it's cold).

I'm happier with a mind full of ideas, a mailbox full of letters from my penpals, a shop full of stationery, a house full of pens and a day full of hugs.

Read my Top 10 Quirks here.

This is me with my wife,
Denise. We met through the
League of Extraordinary
Penpals and are living
happily ever after in the
Stationery Kingdom.

Denise blogs here too and is
the one in charge of the
social media: Facebook,
Twitter and Pinterest.

She's 40 years old,
from South Dakota,
and in love with me, washi
tape & imperial rolls.
