That Care Bear sticker on the envelope reminded me of my childhood. Watching cartoons on Saturday mornings was part of my weekend routine and I miss those days sometimes. I wish I could go back to the 80′s for a few hours! Laura, can you lend me your time machine?!

What were your favorite cartoons / shows as a child? I loved Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, the Smurfs, Care Bears, Astro Boy, Demetan, Inspector Gadget, Fraggle Rock, Jem, Belle and Sebastian, Popeye, Punky Brewster, She-Ra… and a few others that I can’t remember I’m sure!

Ah, good old times…

  1. Car Bears my favourite ever! :)

Joyce would you like to be my new pen pal? (:

  2. Gumini Bears – does anyone remember this series!? Its where they would need to drink their ‘special’ (purple) juice in order to BOUNCE? It might have a different name, this is the only one I remember?

Others included: David the Knome, the Jetsons, the Muppets, Flipper, Thunder Bay, Road to Avonlea, Ready or Not, the Jeffersons, Facts of Life, the Waltons/Little House, Hart to Hart, etc.

By your list Julie we had quite a few in common, because I *loved!* Fraggle Rock, He-Man, She-ra, the Smurfs, Inspector Gadget,… did you ever see Heathcliff?

  3. I was crazy about Heidy and Mazinger Z. Then Jem was also so great! I remember some kids called that series the “singing Barbies series”, and we certainly played Jem with our barbie dolls!

  4. ALRIGHT, but can you pick me up a sweat-material headband and off shoulder sweatshirt while you’re there? They just don’t make them like they used to.

I was all about Tintin and Inspector Gadget for cartoons. And then Wonder Years, Full House, and Saved by the Bell for shows. They recently had a 20 year Full House reunion with the cast and it’s really trippy.

  5. Laura — I knew I forgot one!! :) Thanks for reminding me about The Wonder Years!! :) I still remember how trippy it was for the Facts of Life Reunion! :O Doesn’t seem possible that Full House IS 20 years old! ??

  6. Jorie – thank YOU for reminding me about Road to Avonlea! How could I forget about Sarah Polley?

It *does* seem impossible that Full House is 20 years old. Or that we can remember a time where Uncle Joey WASN’T on the Surreal Life. EEEI! :)

  7. Gumini Bears? Hmmm, that doesn’t ring a bell but it made me think of Popples for some reason!

And I don’t think I’ve heard about Heathcliff either, but I watched all my cartoons in French when I was a kid so maybe the name was different!

Oh, Full House! I was such a fan too! That’s probably the first show I watched in English, since it wasn’t translated…

    And Heidy! Yes.

I loved The Wonder Years. And Doogie Howser! haha

  8. I wasn’t able to look up the exact name of the series until now (& Laura did you know they’ve been releasing nearly ALL of our favourites, including Avonlea to dvd?)… which is why Julie I made a bit of a mistake, their called: Gummi Bears!! Here’s the wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Adventures_of_the_Gummi_Bears

Ooh! And, check this out: http://80scartoons.net/ You can find everything listed on there! :)

They have listings for Heathcliff, but ironically not the series I am remembering!??

After briefly browsing the index I realised just HOW MANY 80s cartoons I used to watch! LOL I wish tv was still as innocent as it was back then! The best show I’ve seen in recent years is SMASH all about Broadway musicals! :) I watch the BBC otherwise, for series like: Monarch of the Glen, Sherlock, and Downton Abbey.

Hello!

My name is Julie and I'm 33.
I live in Québec (close to Montréal) and I speak French.

I write letters, I love stationery and I have a handwriting fetish. I often eat sushi, still feel like I'm 16 and only wear skirts & dresses (with colorful tights when it's cold).

I'm happier with a mind full of ideas, a mailbox full of letters from my penpals, a shop full of stationery, a house full of cats and a day full of hugs.
